Psyche’s influence
Mental health is not only the lack of mental disorders. It is also the state of good mood, when a person has awareness of his or her potential and capability of managing it. The person manages stress, is capable of love, creativeness, effective work and social functioning.
Psyche’s influence on wellness health
Scientific research proves that two thirds of all physical ailments are connected with our psyche. Indeed, the better our mood and mental well-being is, the less physical problems we have. Nowadays mental health is understood as a harmony between mind and body – if one of them deteriorates, it instantly affects the other.
Illnesses and afflictions originating in our psyche are known as psychosomatic disorders. Among them we find such illnesses as: obesity, anorexia, ulcer disease, asthma, hypertension, migraine, many allergies, back pains, insomnia. The state of our psyche affects our appearance, especially the condition of our complexion, which may become wrinkled, grey and without lustre. Bad mental condition reflects on our body as well: for instance, fear causes perspiration increase, pupils’ enlargement, muscle tension. More complex metal states can negatively affect particular organs such as spleen or thyroid.
Familiarising ourselves with scientific research in the field of psychosomatics, which is the new field of science dealing with the impact of psychological factors on human organism, we can observe strong associations between an increased level of fear, depression and skin diseases. Gastric and duodenal illnesses are often associated with suppression of aggression and fear. On the other hand, irritable bowel syndrome is mostly caused by stress. There are many examples, but the most important is the fact that if we are fully conscious of our mental states, we have an enormous impact on our own body.
People who neglect their emotional needs usually feel more negative emotions and do not control them. Bad mood is not the only consequence. Negative emotions affect to a large extent our nervous system and alter the hormonal balance. They can cause depressed mood and actual changes in the organism that are very difficult to treat and often lead to death.
Under the influence of negative emotions our organism feels everyday stress much more forcefully, which can lead to the development of different illnesses.
When we realise that the causes of many diseases are rooted in the negative emotions and if we find them, our organism’s natural ability to self-treatment is unlocked. Positive thinking strengthens our immunological system and stimulates convalescence.
