OTHER DIMENSIONS

PROFESSIONAL DIMENSION

Professional dimension is especially important in our life. It is where we pursue our professional activity and take care of our economic and financial situation. Generally, we devote a lot of time to the above, so we should particularly remember about the balance in this dimension. Young people who are trying to earn money, concentrate too much on their careers, ignoring simultaneously other dimensions of life. On the other hand, older people – pensioners, pay too little attention to it. They forget that in order to be healthy, they should maintain professional activity for the rest of their life.

Very young people fill out this dimension with education and work at school or at a university.

At this level, positive attitude to what we do or have to do is especially important. Only then will we enjoy our work.

Wellness man should consciously choose professional path. When planning your career, you should feel as the creator of your own fate. Find your strengths and analyse your capabilities. Specify your goals making them much more attainable. Mobilise yourself to further development. Be satisfied with what you do.

SOCIAL DIMENSION

Being a part of the community is very important for our health.

Maintaining close contacts with other people boosts our immune system, lightens our mood, builds our self-esteem, helps to fight stress. Everyone has an internal need to belong to the society. One may only need the acceptance in the group, others want to distinguish themselves from the group and again others are only interested in the role of a leader.

The most common form of social life is a family, which is the basic social group. Other groups include for example: scout troop, political party, trade union, local community, non-governmental organization (foundation, association). An example of a large social group is nation or Church. Social groups exert great influence on our value system and social personality.

Wellness man should contribute to the development of society by participating in community activities such as volunteering in a non-governmental organization, working for local community, participating actively in public life (referendums, elections), supporting activities of social economy entities.

ENVIROMENTAL DIMENSION

Environment is an important element that affects the span of life. Environmental factors contribute to 20% of cases of premature deaths. They also influence the quality of life.

Health is also the state of balance between our organism and environment surrounding us. Environment consists of a totality of interconnected natural elements that surround us, including natural resources and man-made products.

Nowadays our environment is heavily contaminated. Unchanged territories are extremely scarce. The majority of territories is neglected and destroyed. Air, water and soil are increasingly contaminated. Therefore, appropriate actions must be taken to counteract further devastation.

Air is especially polluted in urban agglomerations where leading a healthy life is limited.

If you have a chance to choose the place of living, choose the one with lower number of cars and manufacturing plants as they cause heavy air pollution. Choose places near parks, cycle paths or playgrounds; places that encourage healthy lifestyle.

Bear in mind that you have an influence on the surrounding environment and that environment influences your life.

Take care of environmental hygiene, segregate rubbish and take care of its appropriate management (recycling), use energy-saving heating, air conditioning, lighting and home appliances. Use your car occasionally, do not drive alone – lift others, use public transport or a bicycle. Buy environment-friendly products. Take care of steady economic growth.

Find time for spiritual contact with the nature, meditation or prayer.

Environmental dimension comprises also influence of other environments (spiritual, intellectual, professional, social) on our health. They are presented in descriptions of particular dimensions of life.
